Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson

This is the awesome story of one man's mission to promote peace, one school at a time. After the author's attempt to climb a mountain in Pakistan, he realized the need to educate children, especially girls, in the remote regions of Pakistan. By providing a non-biased education, rather than having no alternative for these kids but the extremist/terrorist run schools, he feels strongly that this is the only way we can win the war against terrorism. This man is truly an inspiration. Here are some related links, if you are interested in learning more about this worthy cause.

I encourage you to read this book. It will give you a whole new perspective on the "war on terror".

Copper River

Since I finished "23 Things", I have a little more time to read. I just finished "Copper River" by William Kent Krueger. A couple of things caught my attention about this book. First, Mr. Krueger is one of my favorite Minnesota authors. I have attended several Minnesota Crime Wave events at public libraries and enjoyed them immensely. Mystery/suspense fiction is one of my favorite genres. Also, we visit the UP of Michigan several times every year. It's one of our favorite places. This book is set there, so it was fun to read about places that I had actually been. This was a good book, and I wasn't expecting the ending, so that makes it fun! I would recommend this book. It's a quick read and enjoyable.

P.S. I'm using some of my new-found "23 Things" skills. The book image was created with a 3-D Box generator. It's still fun to explore and create!

Thing 14 - GoodReads

So I didn't have just one post for "Thing 14", I did sign up for GoodReads. I enjoy reading and like searching for book reviews. This is just another source for me, both personally and professionally. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thing 14 - LibraryThing

This may be the shortest "Thing" for me to complete! YIPPEE! I have already set up a LibraryThing account and have a link to my LT books on my blog. Today, I added a LibraryThing "Chiclet" to my blog which takes you directly to my LT catalog. I have also signed up to be a LibraryThing Early Reviewer and have added ERHS Media Center to LibraryThing Local. Of course, I have added LibraryThing to my del.icio.us accout. Whew! This has all been done prior to my starting "Thing 14". Can you tell I really think LibraryThing is awesome. I am still learning about the myriad of options and features of this site. I have used this site for the library; it is a good way to search authors, series information, and the like. I'm glad this was part of "23 Things"! LibraryThing will definitely be mentioned in "How I Spent My Summer Vacation!"
