Playing Around with New Flip Video Cam

It snowed today and we got to leave school a little early. This gave me a chance to try out the Flip USB Video Cam I bought at Christmas. I made this video with music using my Flip Video. Then I uploaded it to YouTube to get the embed code for this blog post. Let me know what you think!

You can also take a snapshot with the Flip Video:

So far, it's really easy to use. It will do an hour of video and plugs into your computer (either Mac or PC) with a built in USB port for incredibly easy and quick downloads. It is really small and easily fits into a purse or pocket. The Flip Video cameras come in a bunch of colors. Mine is hot pink and my daughter's is orange. I purchased our Flip Video cameras through HSN.com for $120, which includes a matching nylon case. We have purchased one for school already, and plan on ordering several more for student check-out before the end of the year. I think this will be fun to use both at home and at school!

NPR Letterboxing Broadcast

I have had quite a few friends say they recently heard the NPR program on letterboxing. I hadn't heard the program so went online to see if I could find it and listen to it. I was successful in finding a recording of the April 10, 2004 program. I'm not sure if they just rebroadcast this one or not, but here it is for your listening pleasure...Enjoy!

Thing 19 - Podcasting and Conclusion

I like that you can listen to podcasts and be working on other things at the same time. This seems like a time-saver. Our Media Specialist has been experimenting a little with podcasts. He is thinking about having students podcast book reviews and then posting them onto our web-site. I think that is really neat idea! I can also see podcasting to enhance multi-media types of presentations for classroom assignments. I appreciate the training aspect of podcasts, and along with instructional handouts, maybe we should do a corresponding podcast of instructions for tasks like creating a brochure in Microsoft Word, how to make a picture the background to a slide in Microsoft PowerPoint, etc. Even though this Thing took me a while, I enjoyed what I have learned and look forward to thinking about more ways we could incorporate podcasting into our library environment.

That's enough "23 Thinging" for one day, it's off to bed for me. Hopefully, I'll finish my last 4 Things in the next couple of days!

Thing 19 - Podcasts

I listened to a podcast from the MEMO conference and it worked! Then I clicked on the MPR podcast link and subscribed to "Grammar Grater" in my RSS feed. I also listened to one of the episodes entitled "A Topic of Interest". Today, I'm working on our laptop computer at home, so I had to do a lot of downloading and upgrading for this Thing. The laptop is on our wireless network, so everything seemed to take a very long time.

I am familiar with podcasting. I subscribe to a Jazzercise podcast through my iTunes account for when I travel. I tried to figure out how to get one of these embedded into my blog, but I don't think you can from iTunes...at least I couldn't figure it out!

I was successful at creating an account and setting up a playlist at Last.fm The results have been added as a page element to my blog on the right-hand side. I hope you check out some of my favorite songs. It's a pretty eclectic mix, if I say so myself! Enjoy!

Thing 11 - Learning 2.0 and Del.icio.us Podcast

I have always been a pretty organized person when it comes to computers. I utilize folders to organize saved e-mails and word processing, spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations. I have also created groups in my e-mail contacts. As I understand it so far, tagging is equivalent to a labeling system, which I have been using by creating folders and groups.

As I go through "23 Things", I have been introduced to "tagging" and have done so on LibraryThing and Flickr. I also have been diligent in labeling the posts in my blog. Thus, this is not a totally foreign concept for me. I am anxious to learn more about del.icio.us and found the "Learning 2.0 and Del.icio.us" podcast a good introduction. Now I'm ready to explore the site!
